2D Game Artist

Responsibilities

• Help build and define the creative vision and visual style for Chess.com
• Create illustrative assets that bring the vision to life and joy to players
• Collaborate with product, animation, motion design, and engineering teams
• Contribute to a range of product and branding initiatives

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in a gaming environment
• Grand Master command of designing vector artwork using Adobe Illustrator and Figma
• Excellent 2D art and illustration skills
• Keen eye for composition, perspective, color theory, and directing the viewer's eye
• Comfortable creating a range of art assets including environments, objects, storyboards, characters, and clothing
• Ability to match an established art style while remaining flexible
• Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• A portfolio that demonstrates the needs of the role well

Preferred Qualifications

• Passion for games and excitement around sharing the game of chess
• Knowledge of animation pipelines for building 2D assets
• Experience bringing characters and user interfaces to life with motion design tools like Lottie, Rive, or CSS
