American Sign Language (ASL) AI Trainer

Responsibilities

• Converse with AI models on real-world ASL communication scenarios and theoretical linguistics questions
• Verify linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness of model outputs
• Challenge models on ASL-to-English translation, classifier usage, and spatial grammar
• Capture reproducible error traces and document model failure modes
• Suggest improvements to prompt engineering and evaluation metrics

Requirements

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Deep understanding of Deaf culture, visual linguistics, and ASL grammar/syntax
• Expertise in non-manual markers, fingerspelling, and regional variations
• Ability to provide clear, metacognitive communication and "show your work"
• Access to a secure computer and high-speed internet

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, Linguistics, or a related field
• RID certification
• Teaching experience or community interpreting projects
