Chief Technology Officer

Responsibilities

• Own Toptal's AI technology strategy and architecture, including model selection, fine-tuning, and orchestration
• Deploy agentic engineering at scale across matching, vetting, and internal operations
• Manage technical architecture end-to-end, from services and data flows to system boundaries
• Lead resourcing and workforce planning, including scoping roadmaps and hiring A-players
• Drive engineering productivity through AI-assisted development, review, and testing
• Set standards for the engineering team and develop talent against those standards

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership (CTO or VP of Engineering level)
• Deep, hands-on command of modern AI engineering (foundation models, agentic architectures, retrieval, fine-tuning)
• Proven experience scaling and modernizing large existing codebases
• Experience leading globally distributed, remote teams at hyper-growth companies
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to act as a world-class individual contributor and architect
