About the role
Responsibilities
- Reviews and interprets medical information, physician treatment plans, and outcomes to determine appropriate ICD codes
- Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests for the hospital and health system
- Manages medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports
- Stays updated on ICD guidelines through training and coding clinics
Requirements
- High School / GED
- 1 year of experience in hospital coding
- Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified In-patient Professional Coder (CIC)
- Strong data entry and computer application skills
- Ability to work effectively with healthcare team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Health Information Management or a related field
