Counsel, Commercial and Strategic Initiatives @ Hometap

Responsibilities

• Support Hometap's mission of enabling homeowners to access equity in their homes without debt through innovative home equity investment solutions
• Partner with cross-functional teams to provide legal and regulatory guidance on matters ranging from data privacy and AI to dispute resolution
• Spend approximately 70% of time advising on strategic initiatives and operational optimization, working with leadership to align legal strategy with commercial objectives
• Spend approximately 30% of time focusing on commercial and vendor agreements, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating technology contracts, vendor arrangements, and strategic partnership agreements
• Collaborate with finance, technology, and operations teams to ensure compliance and manage third-party risk

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school

• Active bar membership

• Experience in consumer financial services, fintech, or mortgage lending, or other highly regulated, consumer-facing industries is strongly preferred

• At least four years of relevant legal experience, including in-house exposure

• Adept at structuring and negotiating commercial agreements

• Skilled at translating complex requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business partners
