Data Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the data team, hiring, mentoring and growing data and analytics engineers
• Own technical strategy and architecture for the data platform, including ingestion, warehouse, orchestration and semantic layer
• Establish a single source of truth for core business metrics agreed with commercial, finance and product
• Deliver self-serve analytics so most questions are answered without a ticket
• Own data reliability: freshness SLAs, lineage, testing and alerting
• Partner with security and legal on governance, access control, retention and PII handling across markets
• Build foundations for data science, personalisation, fraud and risk, including event tracking and experimentation
• Partner with product and engineering so instrumentation and data contracts are designed into services

Requirements

• 8+ years in software or data engineering with 3+ years leading engineering teams
• Experience building and operating a production data platform with batch and streaming ingestion
• Deep SQL and dimensional modelling; comfortable with Python, TypeScript, Go, Postgres and AWS
• Track record of aligning organisations on metric definitions
• Governance instincts treating access, PII and retention as design inputs
• Judgment to sequence a platform build so value arrives early

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience standing up a data function from zero or consolidating fragmented reporting
• Analytics experience on e-commerce, marketplace, payments or fintech products
• Experience supporting data science and ML in production
• MENA or emerging-market experience, including multi-currency reporting
