About the role
Responsibilities
- Own enterprise data models, schemas and business glossaries across project streams
- Set platform and pipeline standards covering CI/CD, testing and environments
- Direct and align senior data engineers embedded in project squads
- Conduct hands-on technical reviews of vendor codebases before production release
- Assure engineering content in Steering Committee packs and validate vendor progress claims
- Validate estimates and Change Requests and investigate root causes of delays
Requirements
- 10+ years hands-on data engineering and modelling, 4+ years leading engineering standards
- Solid retail banking (RBG) enterprise data solutions background
- Experience with real-time data backends for mobile banking and digital journeys
- Deep conceptual, logical and physical modelling (ERD, Data Vault 2.0, Kimball, JSON/Avro)
- Excellent verbal, written and visual communication with executives
- Senior stakeholder gravitas with CTO and Head of Engineering level
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced SQL, Python, PySpark/Databricks, Snowflake/BigQuery, Kafka/Event Hubs, dbt
- Cloud data platforms (AWS/Azure)
- Data modelling or engineering leadership for UAE or GCC banks
