Database Administrator - PostgreSQL (HIOS)

Responsibilities

• Administer PostgreSQL and MySQL databases on Amazon RDS across Dev, Test, Impl and Prod
• Plan and execute minor and major version upgrades and quarterly OS patching in AWS
• Own backup and recovery, including AWS Backup plans and scheduled restore tests
• Monitor and tune database performance, indexes, vacuum and bloat management
• Manage database access and security, including audit trails supporting compliance
• Support application deployments by reviewing and running Liquibase changes
• Build and maintain monitoring, alarms and automation with CloudWatch, Ansible and Jenkins
• Contribute to ETL development and data modeling alongside the data architect
• Write and maintain runbooks and technical documentation

Requirements

• Public Trust clearance obtainable and maintainable
• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience
• Three years administering production relational databases
• PostgreSQL DBA experience including backup, replication and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL
• Strong SQL skills including PL/pgSQL and working knowledge of MySQL
• Experience with on-call and triage rotations
• Understanding of change control and production change management

Preferred Qualifications

• Blue/green major version upgrades in AWS (RDS or Aurora)
• ETL development with Talend or similar tools
• Erwin Data Modeler or similar data modeling tools
• Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, read replicas and migration from RDS
• Federal programs experience including NIST 800-53 / FISMA controls
