Developmental Editor

Responsibilities

• Identify weaknesses in manuscript argument and structure, including research gaps and repetition
• Reorganize and rewrite passages to strengthen clarity, tone, and argument while preserving author voice
• Suggest or verify citations from classical or contemporary scholarship
• Communicate directly with authors to collaboratively work through revisions
• Incorporate peer-review feedback into subsequent drafts
• Coordinate with style and copyediting teams to ensure citation and transliteration standards

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience developmentally editing long-form, research-based non-fiction manuscripts
• Proven ability to adapt sophisticated theological, philosophical, or legal arguments for diverse reader backgrounds
• Ability to identify assumptions, inconsistencies, and weak evidence to formulate sound arguments
• Strong grounding in Islamic sciences to critically engage religious content and identify credible sources
• Experience managing a defined scope of work against project timelines
