Engineering Manager - Spark

Responsibilities

• Build a healthy, high-trust team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed environment
• Run 1:1s, performance management, career development, and onboarding for direct reports
• Own the hiring plan for the team and act as Hiring Manager
• Partner with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and close candidates
• Own the team's roadmap and project management in Linear
• Manage workflow intake and Slack triage for cross-team requests
• Own weekly team updates and keep stakeholders aligned
• Organize effort against support tickets and maintain the team's SLO
• Train as an Incident Commander and lead blameless post-incident reviews

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering background with depth in complex systems
• 3+ years managing remote engineering teams
• Experience managing engineering teams at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company
• Strong technical credibility in backend and database systems, including Postgres
• Track record of performance management and difficult conversations
• Clear, proactive written and async communication

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with developer tools or databases, including SQLite and Postgres ecosystems
• Led a team shipping a developer-facing API or platform from early stage to production
• Experience managing globally distributed teams across time zones
