Principal Database Architect

Responsibilities

• Define the data platform roadmap, balancing on-prem legacy with cloud-native AWS solutions
• Design HA/DR architectures including replication, failover, and cross-region redundancy
• Lead major migrations, upgrades, and platform consolidations
• Implement backup/restore strategies and define SLOs/SLIs
• Enforce least-privilege access, PII protection, and SOC 2 controls
• Automate provisioning using Terraform/CloudFormation and database change management via CI/CD
• Mentor teams and translate business/compliance needs into scalable data solutions

Requirements

• 7+ years in data engineering, DBA, or infrastructure roles
• 2+ years in a lead or architect capacity
• Deep, hands-on MySQL expertise (Performance Schema, InnoDB internals, replication management)
• Experience with hybrid cloud and on-prem Linux environments
• Experience working in SOC environments
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Bash/PowerShell
• Experience with AWS services (RDS, Aurora, S3, EC2, VPC, IAM, DMS, Glue)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or NoSQL
• Experience with Data Warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery)
• AWS Certified Database Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect
