About the role
Responsibilities
- Define the data platform roadmap, balancing on-prem legacy with cloud-native AWS solutions
- Design HA/DR architectures including replication, failover, and cross-region redundancy
- Lead major migrations, upgrades, and platform consolidations
- Implement backup/restore strategies and define SLOs/SLIs
- Enforce least-privilege access, PII protection, and SOC 2 controls
- Automate provisioning using Terraform/CloudFormation and database change management via CI/CD
- Mentor teams and translate business/compliance needs into scalable data solutions
Requirements
- 7+ years in data engineering, DBA, or infrastructure roles
- 2+ years in a lead or architect capacity
- Deep, hands-on MySQL expertise (Performance Schema, InnoDB internals, replication management)
- Experience with hybrid cloud and on-prem Linux environments
- Experience working in SOC environments
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Bash/PowerShell
- Experience with AWS services (RDS, Aurora, S3, EC2, VPC, IAM, DMS, Glue)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or NoSQL
- Experience with Data Warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery)
- AWS Certified Database Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect
