Job description

Responsibilities

  • Write high-impact local news items in Axios’ Smart Brevity style with daily turnaround
  • Cover timely stories, events, and trends for Axios Local newsletters, websites, and social media
  • Collaborate with editors and full-time newsletter authors
  • Occasionally fill longer coverage gaps for one to three months as needed

Requirements

  • Strong news judgment and clean, concise writing
  • Ability to move quickly and meet daily deadlines
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting across diverse subject areas
  • Comfort with both original reporting and smart aggregation
  • Experience with newsletters or audience-focused writing
  • Familiarity with Smart Brevity style or willingness to learn quickly
  • Self-starter who brings executable story ideas daily
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working remotely
