About the role
Responsibilities
- Write high-impact local news items in Axios’ Smart Brevity style with daily turnaround
- Cover timely stories, events, and trends for Axios Local newsletters, websites, and social media
- Collaborate with editors and full-time newsletter authors
- Occasionally fill longer coverage gaps for one to three months as needed
Requirements
- Strong news judgment and clean, concise writing
- Ability to move quickly and meet daily deadlines
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting across diverse subject areas
- Comfort with both original reporting and smart aggregation
- Experience with newsletters or audience-focused writing
- Familiarity with Smart Brevity style or willingness to learn quickly
- Self-starter who brings executable story ideas daily
- Strong communication skills and comfort working remotely
