Job description
Responsibilities
- Design and implement well-tested, well-documented software in Rust
- Advocate for Rust adoption across Canonical and upstream open source projects
- Identify codebases to prioritise for Rust migration
- Debug and fix user-reported issues
- Participate in code and architectural reviews
- Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
- Improve engineering and operations practices
- Deploy and operate team-developed services where needed
- Drive product success through technical advocacy
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record in high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling alternative path
- For senior roles, experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs
- Proven drive and record of exceeding expectations
- Self-starting with strong organisational and delivery skills
- Professional written and spoken English
- Extensive experience writing high-quality Rust on Linux
- Deep passion for and experience with Linux at the system level
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing for Ubuntu
- Familiarity with LXD, MicroK8s, SnapD, IoT, Juju, Ubuntu Core, or Ubuntu Pro
- Performance engineering and security background
