Job description

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement well-tested, well-documented software in Rust
  • Advocate for Rust adoption across Canonical and upstream open source projects
  • Identify codebases to prioritise for Rust migration
  • Debug and fix user-reported issues
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews
  • Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
  • Improve engineering and operations practices
  • Deploy and operate team-developed services where needed
  • Drive product success through technical advocacy

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic track record in high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling alternative path
  • For senior roles, experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs
  • Proven drive and record of exceeding expectations
  • Self-starting with strong organisational and delivery skills
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Extensive experience writing high-quality Rust on Linux
  • Deep passion for and experience with Linux at the system level
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing for Ubuntu
  • Familiarity with LXD, MicroK8s, SnapD, IoT, Juju, Ubuntu Core, or Ubuntu Pro
  • Performance engineering and security background
