About the role
Responsibilities
- Deliver and oversee daily husbandry, care, feeding, cleaning and enrichment of assigned animal collections
- Monitor animal behavior, welfare indicators and medical concerns and report promptly
- Ensure strict compliance with SOPs, risk assessments, permit-to-work and emergency procedures
- Conduct daily safety checks of holding facilities, gates, locks and barriers
- Provide daily guidance, supervision and mentorship to Animal Keepers
- Maintain accurate animal records, daily reports and operational documentation
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years in a modern zoological institution, aquarium or similar facility
- Experience handling potentially dangerous animal species under strict safety protocols
- Experience implementing SOPs, risk assessments and emergency procedures
- Experience supervising, mentoring and training junior animal care staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in institutions accredited by AZA, EAZA, WAZA or similar bodies
- Experience with protected contact systems and positive reinforcement training
- Experience with animal welfare assessment programs and incident investigations
- Modern zoo record keeping systems (ZIMS preferred)
