Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the host provisioning stack using PXE boot, Ansible, and burn-in agents
• Evolve the homegrown orchestration engine to manage clusters, containers, and VMs
• Optimize bin packing algorithms to maximize utilization and minimize costs
• Own internal tooling used by Railway engineers to interact with the fleet
• Build internal observability and alerting systems
• Design and maintain CI pipelines for infrastructure code
• Define immutable infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible
• Build Golang/Rust GRPC services capable of supporting millions of users
• Write Engineering Requirement Documents for new implementations

Requirements

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and fault tolerance
• Hands-on experience with bare metal provisioning and configuration management
• Experience building and operating internal developer tools
• Proficiency in Golang or Rust
• Experience with Terraform and Ansible
• Ability to navigate the ambiguity of an early-stage startup
• Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GRPC services
• Experience with large-scale container orchestration
