About the role
Responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT codes with applicable modifiers
- Contact clients when medical record documentation is unclear for coding
- Monitor regulatory and payer changes for diagnostic and procedure coding
- Research and resolve coding edits, payer rejections and insurance denials
- Identify trends in edits, rejections and denials for process improvement
- Maintain current coding knowledge through continuing education
Requirements
- Active coding credential such as CPC, CCS-P, CIC, COC or CRC
- 5+ years of professional medical coding, including orthopedic surgery coding
- Strong experience with operative reports, CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, NCCI edits
- Experience with Workers' Compensation coding and payer-specific requirements
- Experience performing coding quality audits and resolving complex coding issues
- Experience with eClinicalWorks or similar EHR systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Senior Coder, Coding Auditor, QA Analyst or Coding SME experience
- Experience supporting provider documentation queries and coding education
- Experience training offshore coding teams during implementation
