Software Engineer (Build Infrastructure)

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Bazel build system to keep it fast, reliable, and easy to use
• Design and roll out remote caching and remote build execution (RBE)
• Maintain rules, toolchains, and dependency management for C++, Python, and Go
• Enhance developer workflows including build, lint, code coverage, and testing support
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve CI systems using AWS and Buildkite
• Develop automation tools for change submission and dependency management
• Design monitoring services and dashboards to track build health and performance
• Participate in team support and on-call rotation

Requirements

• Hands-on experience maintaining Bazel or comparable systems like Buck or Pants
• Experience with remote caching and remote execution (e.g., BuildBuddy, EngFlow)
• Strong knowledge of build systems, git, GitHub, and testing frameworks
• Working knowledge of C++ build toolchains including compilers and cross-compilation
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD best practices and experience with Buildkite is a plus
• Experience developing tools in Python or Go
• Experience with Linux operating systems
• Knowledge of AWS or cloud platforms; Terraform experience is a plus
• Familiarity with front-end web development for internal tools is a plus
