Sr. Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of an existing production VPN and its Go networking engine
• Stabilize and evolve the backend, including account, subscription, and server-selection APIs
• Manage WireGuard peer and configuration pipelines and integrations with payments and analytics
• Establish automated testing, API documentation, and CI/CD workflows
• Use agentic AI coding tools as a core part of the daily workflow to plan, implement, and test work
• Work closely with mobile frontend engineers, DevOps, and product managers to execute the strategic roadmap

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional senior backend engineering experience in an agile environment
• Strong expertise in Go, including concurrency, networking, and cross-compilation for mobile
• Proficiency in Python and Node.js
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and AWS services
• Deep understanding of VPN and networking protocols (WireGuard, Shadowsocks, TCP/IP, DNS, TLS)
• Experience with third-party integrations like Stripe, Firebase, and Datadog
• Demonstrated proficiency using AI agents (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for development
• Strong security-mindedness regarding encryption, secrets management, and user privacy

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or maintaining a consumer VPN or proxy backend
• Familiarity with wireguard-go, gVisor netstack, or lwIP
• Experience operating multi-provider infrastructure (AWS, DigitalOcean, Vultr, etc.)
• Knowledge of Kotlin or Swift for mobile library integration
• Compliance and data-governance experience (GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2)
