Staff Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own AvalancheGo as its maintainer, managing contributions from the team and the community.
• Set and enforce engineering standards and define production quality for the team.
• Design, build, and advance critical systems including consensus, P2P networking, state management, and VM interfaces.
• Champion reliability and production readiness through observability standards and SLOs.
• Own the engineering lifecycle for network-critical code, including versioning and coordinated upgrades.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive technical direction through the Avalanche Community Proposals (ACP) process.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years at a staff or lead level.
• Expert-level proficiency in Go, including concurrency models and performance tuning.
• Significant open source experience as a maintainer or core contributor.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems (consensus, P2P, or state sync).
• Strong testing discipline including unit, property-based, fuzz, and end-to-end network testing.
• Experience with release engineering, semantic versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Proficiency with Linux, Docker/Kubernetes, and observability tools like Prometheus/Grafana.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated experience.
