Staff Software Engineer - Byte POS

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery and Android engineering leadership
• Champion AI-assisted development patterns and guardrails
• Mentor and coach fellow engineers
• Implement MVVM architecture and testing strategies
• Architect core platform capabilities like peer-to-peer replication and offline resilience
• Interface with hardware devices including printers and payment terminals
• Collaborate with product management and cross-functional teams

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related STEM field
• 8+ years hands-on experience building robust mobile software
• Expert knowledge of Android SDK, Kotlin, and Jetpack Compose
• Published native Android apps in portfolio
• Experience architecting and building libraries, SDKs, and tools
• Proficiency with AI development tooling
• Ability to lead and mentor developers
• Experience with CI/CD processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to distributed systems and peer-to-peer architecture
• Background in restaurant tech or retail POS systems
• Experience with reactive UI patterns (Kotlin Flow, Coroutines)
• Experience building payment systems and hardware integration
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience customizing Android OS on x86 hardware
• Startup experience
