About the role
Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and reliability of the Cabin UX application end-to-end, including server-rendered UI with HTMX and NestJS services
- Build rider-facing interfaces for embedded/tablet displays optimized for varying light and motion
- Integrate real-time communication via WebRTC between the cabin and operators
- Integrate audio and ambient-experience systems for announcements and sound design
- Consume vehicle telemetry and fleet state over WebSockets or SSE for real-time rendering
- Develop offline-first functionality for low-connectivity operation
- Deploy and update software on on-vehicle edge compute and work on fleet rollout
- Test on real hardware, hardware-in-the-loop, and simulation environments
- Design and optimize schemas for relational and NoSQL stores
- Partner with Design to turn rider-experience concepts into shipped products
- Support localization and accessibility (WCAG) across rider-facing applications
Requirements
- Expert-level TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS
- Production experience with Node.js backends, specifically NestJS on Fastify
- Strong preference for hypermedia-driven architectures (HTMX, Hotwire)
- Hands-on WebRTC experience including media capture and signaling
- Experience with WebWorkers and event-driven architectures (MQTT, gRPC)
- Experience shipping web-native or embedded UI on Linux-based or tablet hardware
- Proficiency with Linux, containers, and deploying to edge compute
- Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, DynamoDB)
- Ability to define schemas for databases like Postgres or Redis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automotive, transit, or public-facing embedded interfaces
- Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware (Orin/Thor)
- 3D or graphics experience using Three.js, WebGL, or shaders
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing or simulation
