About the Company

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) connects people with the teachings of Sikhi and strengthens the bonds of the Sikh community around the world by offering courses and seminars. Our goal is to make Sikh education accessible to anyone and present the Guru Granth Sahib as it is.

Responsibilities

  • Translate texts from the 1400s to the 1800s from Braj or Persian into clear, accurate, and accessible English
  • Work with researchers to identify texts, estimate timelines, and incorporate feedback from Subject Matter Experts
  • Support the development of factsheets on Gurus, key figures, and historical events, as well as analytical papers and articles
  • Ensure translations preserve linguistic nuance, poetic structure, and historical/cultural context
  • Maintain consistency in terminology across texts and time periods
  • Flag ambiguous or contested passages for collaborative interpretation

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in Braj or Persian
  • Working knowledge of Shahmukhi script
  • Strong command of English with the ability to produce clear prose
  • Ability to read Gurmukhi
  • Experience working with historical texts and manuscripts
  • Familiarity with South Asian historical contexts and Sikh history
