RTDS Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop and configure project-specific RTDS and RSCAD models for utility-scale solar, BESS, and hybrid power plants
• Translate electrical one-lines, control narratives, and interconnection requirements into real-time simulation models
• Build and validate plant-level models for power, voltage control, and grid support functions
• Set up Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments using RTDS and physical control hardware
• Integrate PPCs, EMS controllers, RTACs, relays, and SCADA servers into HIL environments
• Develop and execute HIL test plans, procedures, and validation reports
• Troubleshoot model, controller, communication, and network issues during testing
• Replicate field issues in the HIL environment to support root-cause analysis

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Controls Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience with PSCAD, RSCAD, RTDS, or real-time power system simulation
• Hands-on experience setting up Hardware-in-the-Loop environments
• Strong understanding of power systems, inverter-based resources, and utility-scale solar/BESS
• Experience integrating physical controllers, RTACs, relays, or SCADA systems into simulation environments
• Familiarity with industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus TCP, IEC 61850, or OPC UA
• Strong troubleshooting skills across models, controls, and communication networks

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
• Experience with RTDS NovaCor, RSCAD FX, GTNET, or GTFPGA
• Experience with OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL, or Speedgoat platforms
• Experience with SEL RTACs, SEL relays, or Ignition SCADA
• Knowledge of IEEE 2800, NERC, ERCOT, CAISO, or PJM requirements
• Proficiency with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or test automation tools
