Engineering Manager

Portless is changing the face of global e-commerce. By decoupling brands from traditional, expensive domestic warehousing, we allow e-commerce companies to ship directly from manufacturing hubs to global consumers in as little as 3-5 days.

Responsibilities

• Drive global engineering delivery by executing the technical roadmap across a distributed team
• Balance planned feature work with reactive bug triage and incident response
• Own incident management, including designing sustainable on-call rotations and post-mortem cultures
• Architect asynchronous workflows and high-quality documentation to minimize real-time meetings
• Implement and optimize DORA metrics to track deployment frequency and lead time
• Champion AI-augmented engineering practices using tools like Cursor, Copilot, and Claude Code
• Manage, mentor, and coach a globally distributed team of approximately 10 engineers

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience managing a team of ~10 software engineers
• Proven track record of running globally distributed, asynchronous teams
• High fluency in modern AI development tools and philosophies
• Experience building triage systems and managing real-time incidents for production systems
• Exceptional written communication skills for asynchronous environments
• Practical experience using DORA metrics or similar frameworks to improve velocity
• Strong engineering background capable of navigating code reviews and cloud workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior engineering management experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or E-commerce
• Experience with e-commerce platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce
• Familiarity with cross-border shipping, tracking, and customs APIs
