Job description

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the 63d RD Hazardous Waste (HW) Program to ensure contract scope and quality standards are met
  • Coordinate HW disposal through the HW contractor with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and ACES
  • Ensure disposal contractors comply with EPA Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs) under 40 CFR Part 268
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for federal, state, and local agencies regarding regulatory requirements
  • Monitor command compliance with environmental requirements and recommend policy changes to the Installation Commander
  • Prepare required status and compliance reports relative to HW management
  • Advise 63d RD Leadership on cost-effective waste storage, treatment, and disposal methods
  • Coordinate installation-wide inventories of all generated HW and identify waste-generating activities annually
  • Assist with HW pickups, manifest signatory needs, and data entry in online databases

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or a related field
  • 5-7 years of environmental compliance experience
  • DoD Approved HW Manifest and DOT Hazardous Materials Certification (49 CFR)
  • California Hazardous Waste Management Training (40 CFR §262.17 and 22 CCR §§66262.34 and 66265.16)
  • Proficiency with MS Windows OS (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • U.S. citizenship and a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a government background/security check and obtain a DoD Common Access Card

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within DoD or military installation environments
  • Strong background in managing, planning, and budgeting for environmental programs
