Lead Software Engineer, Platform

About the Company

PostEra is building a modern, 21st-century biopharma. We use Proton, our AI platform for medicinal chemistry, to accelerate the discovery of new medicines for patients. PostEra is advancing an internal pipeline focused on Women's Health and Reproductive Medicine while also advancing small-molecule programs through partnerships with biopharma.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and contribute to the development of scalable web applications and microservices
• Shape systems design decisions around the Proton drug discovery platform, including data architecture and microservice design
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and defining technical standards
• Drive engineering excellence initiatives such as improving CI/CD processes and architecting backend interactions with ML systems
• Collaborate with scientists and ML experts to tackle challenges like expanding molecular search and bringing ML research to production

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field
• Experience in systems design and backend web development
• Experience with cloud providers (ideally AWS), container orchestration, and IaC
• Experience with Python and relational databases like PostgreSQL
• Strong communication skills and experience with technical mentorship or people management

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in Python-based backend frameworks like Django
• Experience integrating ML systems into production services
• Familiarity with container orchestration or workflow systems (Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Argo, Airflow)
• Familiarity with data pipelines
• Experience designing agentic workflows or context engineering
