Metadata Student Assistant

Responsibilities

• Create, transform, and edit non-MARC metadata for the Libraries' Digital Collections
• Use Microsoft Excel and OpenRefine to find, create, and edit metadata
• Edit and publish online metadata records in the DC repository
• Perform quality reviews to ensure metadata accuracy and integrity
• Create original descriptions of works to aid access and digital accessibility
• Transcribe pages, proofread transcriptions, and provide alternative text for images

Requirements

• Enrolled in a Masters degree with a focus on Library and Information Science, Art History, History, English, or Humanities
• Experience using Microsoft Excel
• Ability to perform detailed, repetitive work with high accuracy
• Comfortable learning new technologies and working independently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Completed cataloging and/or metadata coursework
• Familiarity with controlled vocabularies (e.g., Library of Congress Subject Headings, Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus)
• Experience with digital collections
• Experience with data manipulation using OpenRefine
