Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services in Go, APIs, and event-driven systems
• Own architectural decisions including service boundaries, data models, and API contracts
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to align technical implementations with user needs
• Drive API and SDK ergonomics to ensure a high-quality developer experience
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives and mentor other engineers through design reviews and pair programming
• Champion best practices in testing, observability, CI/CD, and backend reliability
• Navigate ambiguity to define technical directions when requirements are still evolving

Requirements

• Deep backend engineering expertise with a track record of designing systems at scale
• Strong API design skills across REST, gRPC, and GraphQL
• Experience designing event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases and messaging systems like Kafka
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong performance engineering, scalability, and reliability expertise
• High agency and a product mindset to solve real-world problems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a remote-first, distributed engineering environment
• Prior experience building developer platforms, SDKs, or composable API layers
• Experience with large-scale migration patterns (e.g., strangler fig) from monolith to microservices
• Familiarity with real-time systems such as WebRTC or media pipelines
• Knowledge of multi-tenancy, SaaS platform patterns, and rate limiting
