Senior Director, Legal, Global Payments

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior legal advisor for payments, financial services, and fintech matters
• Define legal strategy for the global payments platform to enable product innovation and international expansion
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Compliance to provide guidance on new payment methods and financial services
• Act as subject matter expert on money transmission, AML/BSA, sanctions, KYC/KYB, and card network rules
• Lead legal strategy for regulatory engagement, licensing, and supervisory examinations
• Structure and negotiate strategic commercial partnerships with payment processors and financial institutions
• Build scalable legal governance and regulatory infrastructure to support global marketplace expansion

Requirements

• 12+ years of legal experience with significant expertise in payments, fintech, or financial services
• Experience as a senior legal advisor for regulated financial services or complex payments infrastructure
• Deep expertise in payments law, money transmission, AML/BSA, sanctions, and card network/ACH rules
• Proven success partnering with cross-functional teams to launch products in highly regulated environments
• Experience supporting marketplace businesses, cross-border providers, or global financial institutions
• Strong executive presence and ability to translate legal complexity into business guidance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience advising on international regulatory regimes (Canada, UK, EU, Australia, Latin America)
• Experience supporting digital assets or emerging payment technologies
• Experience within global marketplace platforms or consumer technology companies
