Software Engineer, Sustaining Engineering

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software
• Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate with upstream communities for inclusion
• Review code produced by other engineers
• Maintain close working relationships with Field, Support, and product engineering teams
• Troubleshoot and drive issues to resolution with workarounds, guidance, and bug fixes
• Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation
• Travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events, and conferences

Requirements

• Professional experience as a software engineer
• Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
• Strong experience with Linux
• Experience with Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, or other cloud technologies
• Development-level experience with Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
• Ability to troubleshoot with debugging tools like gdb
• Familiarity with git source code repositories
• Exceptional academic track record
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Ubuntu Linux kernel or userspace
• Familiarity with QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, or distributed systems
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Debian packaging
• Passion for open source development and troubleshooting
