Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Chess.com's flagship Android application to serve 185M+ global chess players
• Design and implement shared codebase architecture across the Android ecosystem
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product management, and data analytics teams
• Optimize application performance and user experience through code reviews and monitoring
• Contribute to technical architecture decisions for mobile platform scalability
• Maintain and improve development workflows for a fully distributed team

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional Android development experience with production applications
• Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDK
• Hands-on experience with Android Architecture Components (ViewModels, Room, Navigation)
• Proficiency with asynchronous programming using Coroutines or RxJava
• Experience with dependency injection frameworks like Dagger 2 or Hilt
• Proven experience with Jetpack Compose for modern UI development
• Experience shipping Android applications to Google Play Store
• Ability to work effectively in fully distributed/remote teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Kotlin Multiplatform experience
• Swift, iOS, or React Native development experience
• Gaming industry experience or passion for chess
• Experience with performance optimization for high-scale applications
• Familiarity with real-time applications and multiplayer gaming architecture
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
