Associate Director of Data and Modeling

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for data platforms, AI/ML systems, and scientific computing environments
• Guide design and operation of data systems for large, heterogeneous scientific and health datasets
• Lead development of AI/ML capabilities including predictive modeling, NLP, and LLMs
• Build sustainable modeling and simulation practices and reproducible workflows
• Strengthen engineering practices around testing, CI/CD, containerization, and observability
• Build and lead multidisciplinary teams spanning software, data, and machine learning engineering
• Ensure data and AI capabilities are appropriate for sensitive and highly governed environments
• Contribute to federal growth and proposal efforts as a senior technical leader

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software, data, or machine learning engineering
• 5+ years of leadership experience building technical teams
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating production-grade AI/ML or data systems
• Strong technical judgment across modern data architectures and MLOps
• Experience building large and complex data pipelines
• Experience delivering technical systems in research-intensive or regulated environments
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or quantitative discipline
• Experience leading organizations of 20+ engineers or scientists
• Experience with biomedical data standards like OMOP or FHIR
• Experience with high-performance computing and large-scale scientific workflows
• Experience deploying Generative AI capabilities with appropriate safeguards
• Experience working with NIH or other federal health organizations
