Bengali/Sylheti Interpreter

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate Bengali/Sylheti-English interpretation for OPI and VRI calls in healthcare and medical settings
• Render all messages completely and accurately without adding, omitting, or substituting content
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to interpreter code of ethics during all calls
• Take detailed notes during calls to ensure precise information retention
• Apply medical terminology knowledge and industry-specific vocabulary appropriately
• Facilitate clear communication between Limited English Proficient individuals and healthcare providers
• Participate in internal professional training and pursue relevant certifications
• Report to team leadership and maintain compliance with dress code for video interpreting

Requirements

• Native fluency in Bengali/Sylheti and fluent English proficiency
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years of over-the-phone interpretation experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred
• High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity
• Strong listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills

Preferred Qualifications

• International certifications in healthcare interpretation (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.)
• Awareness of legal terminology
• Experience with video remote interpreting platforms
