We are an engineering firm that specializes in providing elegant engineering solutions for complex challenges. e.construct is a fast-growing firm with 7 offices around the world. At our core, we question how the very nature of how to evolve the structures that we inhabit to increase their performance and value.

we design structures such as bridges, high-rise design, precast concrete engineering and post-tensioning design. The firm's core work is structural engineering; however, e.construct is increasingly holistic at its approach to buildings and it has divisions in MEP, Geotechnical and emerging construction technology such as 3D printing of concrete, technology and 3D laser scanning.

We are a tech startup that is being incubated in the technology lab of e.construct and we employ technology to empower and eventually transform engineering. VAES’s mission is to reduce the amount of raw materials we design in our buildings and bridges by using optimization algorithms and machine learning.

VAES consists of a team of software developers, civil engineers, machine learning experts, architects and graphic designers that builds tools that engineers can use to design and manufacture the next generation of cities.


Role Summary
This is a versatile role for candidates who enjoy a diversity of activities, chief of them: solving problems and writing, building the team, managing products, etc. I can also foresee, after a successful stint in this role, transitioning into a more defined role that fits their skills and interest. This role would necessitate working closely with the founder and director of VAES.ai.

Responsibilities:
In general, it is to work closely with the CEO to support the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the company. Monitor, oversee, and take responsibility for the completion of various tasks across various departments. Support and coordinate company-level and team-level goal-setting processes in partnership with the CEO (we use OKRs)

There are several areas for this role (plus one optional).

Product manager | Client Dashboard Portal
This role will own the dashboard, which is the portal that connects our clients with the VAES.ai tech + our specialist civil engineers to optimize their structures and produce reports. Additionally, there is scope to help maintain our roadmap for the main technology. The candidate will join client meetings and ensure the dashboard’s successful deployment and feature list.

Creative direction The role entails supporting content/ giving direction on visual elements that our creative team-
Examples: illustrations that accompany the articles, rolling out illustrations/micro-sites that explain the work that we do. Case studies that highlight the technology and building projects.

Writing | Grants | Investment content
Work with the founder to write articles revolving around several themes: our technology (for example how in one project- our algorithms produced an elegant solution that our engineers did not predict), the industry (AEC and optimization algorithms), tech startups in the AEC, the built environment. Encourage team members to also generate articles/knowledge, etc.

Grants / Investment: For example, we are exploring grants from organizations/government entities that want to support technology that would assist in reducing the carbon footprint of the AEC industry.
Identifying and writing content for VC’s that care about the space we’re in.

Optional: tBE:
This role also can support with launching tBE, the Built Environment. tBE is a research platform that we’re planning on launching.

Requirements

    • 5+ years of operational experience in startups, tech, VC, and management consulting.
    • Experience in the engineering/construction world is a strong plus
    • Product management experience is a plus.
    • A passion for writing. This is crucial.
    • Location-wise, ideally based in Cairo- Egypt, or Dubai. Remote can work only for exceptional candidates.
    • Passion for creating products to make the real world a better place, especially emerging technology in the architecture, engineering, and construction space that reduces our carbon footprint and our effect on the cities.

Everything else:

    • Entrepreneurial, scrappy, with a "get stuff done" mentality (officially this is also known as "bias to action").
    • Atypically versatile. Thinks and acts like a CEO. Able to dive into many roles and do them well.
    • Willingness to challenge. You need to be comfortable directly challenging my opinions, assumptions, and actions, but also willing to support me if we disagree and when we are set in a different direction.
    • Preference for candidates who have deviated from the norm.
    • I will be interviewing candidates on a rolling basis, with an emphasis on finding the right person instead of finding someone quickly
