Climate Modelling and Downscaling Expert

Responsibilities

• Develop a methodological approach and institutional engagement plan for nationally owned climate projections
• Perform quality control and processing of historical observational datasets
• Evaluate historical climate-model products against ground observations
• Apply statistical and/or dynamical downscaling and bias-correction techniques
• Generate and validate high-resolution climate projections for temperature and precipitation
• Provide hands-on technical training and mentoring to Meteo Rwanda staff
• Produce high-resolution climate maps, datasets, and visualization products
• Translate technical findings into accessible climate information products for decision-makers

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in meteorology, Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline
• At least ten years of professional experience in climate modelling
• Demonstrated experience in statistical or dynamical climate downscaling and bias correction
• Proficiency in processing and visualizing large climate datasets using computational and geospatial tools
• Proven experience in technical capacity development and training
• Excellent written and oral English skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience conducting climate-change and resilience research in East Africa
• Relevant scientific publications in meteorology or climate science
