Compiler Engineer

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical steward and maintainer for the SCIP open-source protocol
• Drive the technical roadmap and governance for the SCIP ecosystem
• Review and mentor contributors to the SCIP community
• Align with external partner organizations like Meta, Uber, and Stripe to advance the standard
• Shape Sourcegraph's product direction regarding precise code intelligence and AI agents
• Manage the SCIP toolchain and land improvements across indexer and protocol repositories

Requirements

• Senior to staff-level experience in compiler engineering or language toolchains
• Deep fluency in compiler internals, ASTs, and symbol resolution
• Proven experience leading or growing a significant open-source project or standard
• Ability to communicate technical authority in public forums (RFCs, design discussions)
• Experience with build systems like Gradle, Maven, or Bazel
• Proficiency in working with diverse language ecosystems (Java, Kotlin, Ruby, C++, Go)
• Pragmatic approach to software development with a focus on product needs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience creating developer tools like language servers (LSP) or build tools
• Familiarity with SCIP, LSIF, tree-sitter, or rust-analyzer
• Experience partnering with large-scale engineering organizations
• Willingness to learn Go
