About the Company

Global Fishing Watch (GFW) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ocean governance through greater transparency of human activity at sea. We use cutting-edge technology to transform large databases into actionable insights to protect biodiversity, fisheries, and livelihoods.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a technology-driven analysis of available management instruments and the management of selected Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Chile.
  • Determine the current level of integration of technological resources and data streams within MPA management plans.
  • Identify established processes and resources used for planning, monitoring, and surveillance, including infrastructure, hardware, software, and personnel.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations for the enhanced utilization of technology and data in MPA execution.
  • Deliver a work plan, a draft report containing a detailed technological analysis, and a final report including a presentation to stakeholders.
  • Categorize technological recommendations into quick wins, moderate effort, and strategic overhauls.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, implementation, or analysis of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and management plans in Chile.
  • Expertise in technological platforms and data relevant to marine management and conservation.
  • Fluency in Spanish (required).
  • Proficiency in English (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications in marine environments.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Familiarity with near-real-time data integration and oceanographic monitoring tools.
