DevOps Architect

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Architecture & Design

• Design and architect complex, multi-tier lab environments supporting vulnerable machines and realistic attack scenarios
• Develop scalable infrastructure solutions across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
• Create hybrid cloud architectures that seamlessly integrate on-premises VMware and OpenStack environments
• Design network topologies and security boundaries for cyber activities and malware-infected networks
• Establish infrastructure standards, patterns, and best practices

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Partner with Lead Platform and Content Engineers to meet requirements for new lab environments
• Translate educational objectives into robust technical solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development and operations teams
• Lead architectural reviews and technical decisions
• Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment

Platform Engineering & Automation

• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
• Develop infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
• Enable self-service lab deployment for Content Engineers
• Implement monitoring, logging, and observability solutions
• Establish disaster recovery and business continuity procedures

Cloud & Virtualization Management

• Architect and optimize multi-cloud deployments on AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Design and manage VMware vSphere and OpenStack private clouds
• Enforce cloud cost optimization and resource governance
• Ensure security and compliance
• Develop backup and snapshot strategies for labs

Network Architecture & Security

• Design network architectures: VPNs, VLANs, SDN
• Implement network segmentation and controls for security
• Manage load balancers, firewalls, and security appliances
• Build network monitoring and traffic analysis capabilities
• Ensure isolation between student lab environments

Requirements

Technical Expertise

• 5+ years cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Expert-level knowledge of OpenStack and VMware
• Deep understanding of networking: TCP/IP, routing, VPNs, firewalls
• Extensive GitLab CI/CD and infrastructure automation experience
• Proficient with Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, config management
• Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Advanced Linux, Windows Server, Active Directory

Professional Experience

• 8+ years in DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure roles
• 3+ years in senior or lead technical/architectural roles
• Proven large-scale, distributed systems design
• High-availability and disaster recovery expertise
• (Preferred) Cybersecurity/pen-testing/vulnerability research background

Leadership & Communication

• Strong project management and technical leadership
• Excellent technical/non-technical communication
• Mentoring experience and driving technical standards
• Ability to translate business to technical requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related
• Industry certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, VMware VCP)
• Experience with cybersecurity tools and vulnerable app deployment
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
• Prior OffSec training/methodology experience
• Open source contributions or technical writing
