Edge Functions Engineer

Responsibilities

• Evolving Supabase Edge Runtime, an open-source Rust-based host running the Deno isolate
• Implementing monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing across the runtime
• Working closely with Deno and other open-source teams to contribute upstream
• Participating in an on-call rotation to maintain production health
• Managing and improving features like scheduled functions, background tasks, and WebSockets
• Integrating functions with the Supabase stack (Auth, Postgres, Storage, Realtime)
• Expanding function support for AI inference, MCP servers, and more
• Improving developer experience (DX) for local development via the Supabase CLI

Requirements

• At least 5 years of backend or systems engineering experience
• Strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript
• Experience with V8 Isolates, Deno, or JavaScript runtimes
• Experience operating infrastructure at scale (Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, or Redis)
• Strong vision for edge compute and data distribution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building developer-facing CLIs
• Experience building front-end tooling for infrastructure products
