Engineering Manager, AI Platform

Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete in modern conflict, modeling adversary behavior and recommending courses of action to decision makers. We are a small, agile team of world-class engineers and veteran strategists focused on mission impact and national security.

Responsibilities

• Lead the AI Platform organization, setting technical direction and roadmaps for enrichments and agents platforms
• Build the enrichments foundation, including standard pipelines and shared services for data and model enrichments
• Scale the agents runtime, focusing on orchestration, state management, observability, and reliability
• Define platform standards and reusable primitives for product teams
• Raise the quality bar through measurement, testing, and evaluation practices for agent behavior
• Drive cross-functional execution with Product, Design, Mission, Security, and Infrastructure teams
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and leaders

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager
• 5+ years of hands-on machine learning experience
• 2+ years building agentic AI systems in production
• Experience building or operating platforms for internal engineering teams
• Proficiency with Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS
• Deep familiarity with AI/ML orchestration, evaluation, and observability
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Willingness to travel to offsites and customer sites

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with agent frameworks like LangGraph, Temporal, or Agno
• Experience with ML platforms and data pipelines
• Experience building highly reliable systems in regulated or mission-critical environments
• Active security clearance or ability to obtain one
• Prior experience in defense, national security, or intelligence software
