Engineering Manager, Data Systems

About the Company

KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models—alongside our novel sensors—to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs. We are the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer, aiming to discover vital energy transition metals like lithium, copper, nickel, and cobalt.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of high-performing software engineers, hiring and growing diverse individuals
• Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists, and other software engineers to plan and deliver impactful projects
• Work with the Head of Data Systems Engineering on technical product and organizational strategy
• Coach your team to partner effectively across the company
• Contribute to projects as an individual contributor for approximately one-third of your time

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production software systems
• 3+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct reports
• Experience building robust distributed cloud data systems
• Deep understanding of multiple database and data storage technologies
• Track record of delivering large projects from problem definition to impact
• Formal education or job exposure to natural sciences
• Ability to explain technical problems to non-technical domain experts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building systems managing large geospatial or geoscientific datasets
• Experience in a fast-growing, early-stage company environment
