Global Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Act as the global technical authority for mechanical and thermal systems within Eaton’s Data Center Segment.
• Lead the design, validation, and review of advanced data center cooling architectures, including air-based, liquid-based, and hybrid solutions.
• Provide expert guidance on whitespace design, central plant systems, AHUs, fan wall systems, and site-wide water and heat rejection infrastructure.
• Research and develop design approaches for emerging technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion cooling, and CDUs.
• Lead or support CFD analysis to optimize airflow, temperature distribution, efficiency, and resilience.
• Develop and govern global mechanical design standards, reference architectures, and guidelines in alignment with international standards like ASHRAE and OCP.
• Partner with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Electrical Design, and Product Management to ensure technical alignment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with significant exposure to mission-critical facilities and data center environments.
• Deep technical expertise in HVAC, chilled water plants, pumps, heat exchangers, motors, and BMS integration.
• Strong proficiency with engineering and simulation tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and CFD platforms.
• Proven experience operating at a global or enterprise level, supporting multi-region delivery models.
• Ability to travel internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward chartership.
• Demonstrated experience supporting hyperscale data center customers and global programs.
• Experience influencing stakeholders without direct authority in matrixed organizations.
