Head of Observability

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the end-to-end observability strategy, covering logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and profiling
• Own the customer-facing observability experience, including dashboards, logs explorer, and metrics
• Build and lead a world-class observability engineering team, setting high standards for hiring and mentorship
• Orchestrate and scale high-throughput data pipelines for telemetry ingestion, storage, and querying
• Collaborate with engineering teams to embed consistent instrumentation using OpenTelemetry and related standards
• Drive convergence toward a single-pane-of-glass experience for both internal reliability and customer visibility

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years of leadership or management experience
• Proven track record of building or operating an observability platform at scale
• Deep technical proficiency in logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and dashboarding
• Hands-on experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, or OpenTelemetry
• Strong ability to navigate ambiguity and make high-stakes technical decisions in a remote-first environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building customer-facing observability products
• Experience working with Elixir or Erlang in a production environment
• Contributions to open-source observability projects
• Experience working at a company that dogfoods its own observability tooling
