Job description

Responsibilities

  • Perform retrospective coding of inpatient medical records at the conclusion of patient admissions
  • Assign principal and secondary ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
  • Abstract required data elements including admission source, type, and discharge disposition
  • Resolve system and coding edits to ensure accurate MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment
  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) specialists and physician advisors to clarify documentation
  • Maintain departmental productivity and quality standards

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS through AHIMA
  • Minimum of two years of inpatient hospital coding experience
  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four to six years of inpatient coding experience
