Job description

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate Karen-English interpretation for OPI and VRI calls in healthcare and medical settings
  • Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient clients and English-speaking providers
  • Render all messages completely and accurately without adding, omitting, or substituting content
  • Maintain professional standards per interpreter code of conduct and dress code requirements for video calls
  • Take detailed notes during calls and apply industry-specific medical terminology
  • Complete internal professional training and pursue relevant certifications
  • Report to team leadership and maintain high customer service standards

Requirements

  • Native fluency in Karen and fluent English proficiency
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance
  • Strong communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills
  • 1+ years of OPI/VRI experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Healthcare industry certifications (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.) preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • High-speed wired internet: minimum 10 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload (Wi-Fi not permitted)
  • Windows 10 computer with Intel Core i5+ or equivalent dual-core 2 GHz processor
  • 8 GB RAM minimum; system must run in "High Performance" mode
  • USB wired noise-cancelling headset with built-in microphone (no Bluetooth or 3.5mm adapters)
  • No Chromebooks, Macs, tablets, or mobile devices permitted
