Karen Interpreter - OPI/VRI

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate over-the-phone and video remote interpretation between Karen and English for healthcare and medical calls
• Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient patients and English-speaking clients without adding, omitting, or substituting information
• Adhere to interpreter code of conduct and maintain professional standards during all calls
• Take detailed notes during calls and apply industry-specific medical terminology
• Participate in internal professional training and pursue relevant certifications
• Report to team leadership and comply with dress code requirements for video sessions

Requirements

• Native fluency in Karen and fluent English proficiency
• High school diploma or equivalent
• High emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance
• Strong communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills
• 1+ years of telephone interpretation experience preferred but not required
• Knowledge of medical or legal terminology preferred but not required
• Healthcare industry certifications (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.) preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Windows 10 computer with Intel Core i5 or equivalent processor (minimum 2 GHz dual core)
• 8 GB RAM minimum, operating in "High Performance" mode with power adapter plugged in
• Wired internet connection with minimum 10 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload (Wi-Fi not permitted)
• USB wired noise-cancelling headset with built-in microphone (no wireless/Bluetooth)
• Single device setup; no Chromebooks, Macs, tablets, or mobile phones permitted
