Job description

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate OPI/VRI interpretation between Karen and English speakers in healthcare and medical settings
  • Render all messages completely without adding, omitting, or substituting content
  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to interpreter standards of practice
  • Take detailed notes during calls to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient individuals and clients
  • Participate in internal professional training and pursue relevant certifications
  • Report to team leadership and comply with dress code for video remote interpreting

Requirements

  • Native fluency in Karen and fluent English proficiency
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • High emotional intelligence and tolerance for diverse cultures
  • Strong communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills
  • 1+ years of OPI experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Healthcare certifications preferred (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dedicated wired internet: minimum 10 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload (Wi-Fi not permitted)
  • Windows 10 or higher, Intel Core i5 or equivalent dual-core 2 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM minimum
  • USB wired noise-cancelling headset with built-in microphone (no Bluetooth or wireless)
  • Single computer or laptop operating in High Performance mode with power adapter connected
  • Chromebook and Mac devices not permitted
