Job description

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate OPI/VRI interpretation between Kinyarwanda/Kirundi and English in healthcare and medical settings
  • Render all messages completely without adding, omitting, or substituting content
  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to interpreter standards of practice
  • Take detailed notes during calls to ensure accuracy
  • Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient individuals and clients
  • Participate in internal professional training and pursue relevant certifications
  • Report to team leadership and comply with dress code for video remote interpreting

Requirements

  • Native fluency in Kinyarwanda or Kirundi and fluent English
  • 1+ years of OPI/VRI experience with a recognized interpretation company
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology; legal terminology knowledge preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural tolerance
  • Excellent communication, listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • International healthcare certifications (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Additional language pairs or specialized industry expertise
